The WAxis powers (German: Achsenmächte; Italian: Potenze dell'Asse; Japanese: 枢軸国 Sūjikukoku), also known as "Rome–Berlin–Tokyo Axis", were the nations that fought in World War II against the Allies.
The alliance was created in 1936 by the German Reich and the Italian Empire to shift the balance of power from London and Paris (Britain and France) to Rome and Berlin (Italy and Germany). Japan would then form the Tripartite Pact with Germany and Italy in September of 1940. Other countries also held membership in the alliance such as Bulgaria and Romania though they would change sides as the Soviets invaded from the east. At the height of the war, the alliance controlled significant portions of Europe, North and East Africa, and East Asia. Despite this, coordination between the top three countries was minimal. The war ended in 1945 with the defeat of the Axis powers and the dissolution of their alliance.

In Hell Let Loose, factions were labeled by their respective country names and flags in earlier alpha stages of development before it changed to generic term "Axis" and visually to gold star badge.
Germany is the only faction of the Axis to appear in the game so far.
With subsequent downloadable content, more factions (including the the Axis) will be introduced into the game.[1]
