Carentan is a map featured in Hell Let Loose.
Set during the Battle of Carentan fought between June 10th to June 14th 1944, the map depicts the engagement in World War II between airborne forces of the United States and Germany.
This is the most urban map the game provides. For this reason, it is one of the most liked maps in the game as it has a variety of urban fighting and fighting in the fields.
Tips for Tanks: When the map is focused on the urban areas, you need to be aware that it is very easy for one AT soldier to get behind you and kill you because you cannot turn due to the buildings. For this reason, it is vital to be near friendly infantry and act as a spearhead for them: You push forward, they watch your back. If the infantry dies, you better get out of there. Light tanks must attempt to go around and get behind the enemy, or keep their distance with lots of infantry support.
Tips for Infantry: For urban fighting, it is important to look both ways before you cross the road and to stay low and near the buildings. You are at your strongest inside buildings and your weakest outside them, so the occupation of key buildings is key to winning this map.
A commonly unknown fact: there is an alley that goes from the church north of Town Center towards Ruins. It does not appear on the map. It is a good method to get to the church to attack Town Center from the north if you are coming from Ruins.
Historical Summary[]
In 1944, days after the successful Normandy Landings, men of the 101st Airborne and 2nd Armored Division attacked the town of Carentan. It was an intense battle, lasting 4 days with intense skirmishes and firefights. It was a vital point as it was the main point of linking Omaha and Utah beaches.
On the 10th of June, men of the 3rd Battalion of the 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiment attacked down Purple Heart Lane. 2 days later, the men of the 101st and 2nd Armored successfully captured the town of Carentan. The battle was one of the most famous battles of the Second World War. It was popularized in the HBO miniseries "Band of Brothers".
