The WImperial Japanese Army (Japanese: 大日本帝國陸軍 Dai-Nippon Teikoku Rikugun) was a component of the Empire of Japan's military which consisted of ground and air forces which conducted land-based operations. It participated in a number of wars, such as the First and Second Sino-Japanese wars, the Boxer Rebellion, the Russo-Japanese war, World War I and World War II. The IJA committed numerous war crimes during Second Sino-Japanese war and World War II. After the surrender of Japan in September 1945, the Imperial Army was dissolved during the American occupation.
