The M1918A2 BAR is an American automatic rifle featured in Hell Let Loose, utilized by the United States Army.
Like all automatic rifles in the game, the BAR has enough stopping power to kill enemy infantry in 1 hit to the torso at a distance of up to 100 meters. It will require 2 hits to kill at further distances.
Gameplay[]
The BAR is a fully automatic rifle with a 20-round magazine, good range and accuracy, high stopping power, a low rate of fire and high recoil. Because it does not have a bipod, the BAR can be somewhat lacking as a light machinegun due to the low rate of fire, limited magazine capacity, and high recoil. The most effective way to suppress people or offer fire support with the BAR is to either fire in limited 2-4 round bursts whilst pulling your aim down to compensate or to lay down rapid single shot fire at your targets.
The BAR, unlike proper machine guns, is almost entirely an offensive weapon. Unlike machine guns, the BAR can be aimed and fired from the shoulder without having to deploy, which makes the BAR a decent assault weapon. While you may be limited by magazine capacity, recoil and that low rate of fire when compared to the StG 44 or one of the many submachine guns, you're also packing a .30-06 cartridge with a lot of punch, much more than any of the aforementioned weapons. As-such, most people will drop after only a single shot from the BAR, much like the M1 Garand which shares the same .30-06 cartridge. Because of this, you can think of the BAR as a weapon that has twenty potential kills on tap for every reload, going on the assault and just firing off single shots rapidly without needing to reload for a while can be a powerful approach. Think of it as a Garand with a twenty round mag that also has the option to go full auto for fire support or CQB bursts in a pinch. When utilized in such a way, you'll find yourself able to support the other members of your squad when on the offensive quite well. Trying to use the weapon as a proper, full-blown MG or like the StG 44 will only lead to frustration and quick deaths.
